December news

Our annual meeting/dinner was a success!  The food was excellent and seeing everyone again was great.  Several people volunteered to be on our board of directors for 2018 and here they are:
San Juan Runners Officers 2017_18
From left to right: Dan Unrast (equipment), Sherry Heinel (equipment), Mary Plumb (member at large), Scott Gleason (vice president), Christian Martin (president), Julie Osborne (treasurer), and Lori Lambeth (social media).

Everyone in this group has a busy lifestyle and we are very grateful they have generously offered their time and expertise to keep our club up and running.

SAVE THE DATES:  The Winter Rim Romp is scheduled for February 10th at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.  This is a challenging and fun out-and-back course with options for distance and style. Choose a 5 mile snowshoe race or a 10 mile freestyle (skate or classic) ski race. Non-competitive timed 5 mile freestyle ski also available. Awards for winners. After-party hosted by Horsefly at Brew & Bogey Restaurant at the Black Canyon Golf Course with a free beer and a bowl of chili. Lots of swag and lots of fun. All this to benefit Mended Little Hearts of Western Colorado, a non-profit group providing support and friendship for families with children born with congenital heart defects. No park admission fees. Groomed course on the South Rim Road.

The Black Canyon Ascent Run and Challenge Walk is scheduled for May 19th at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.  This event features a tough, scenic 6-mile course starting at an elevation of 6500′ and climbing almost 2,000′ to the rim of the Black Canyon National Park. For over 40 years, beautiful vistas and scenic surroundings have inspired people to challenge themselves and the competition in this classic Western Colorado event.

As soon as we have our online registration pages available for these events we’ll send out another email with those links.  In the meantime, for those of you who use Facebook:

If you run, you are a runner.  It doesn’t matter how fast or how far.
It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years.
There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get.
You just run. ~ John Bingham
