North Rim 20K Race and 8K Run/Walk – Saturday, October 3, 2015 @ 10:00 AM
This is the 3rd event in our Black Canyon Race Series and features jaw-dropping views of the canyon from the unique perspective of the North Rim. Both courses are run on a well-maintained gravel road which enters the Park and then meanders along the rim of the canyon. All participants will receive a goodie bag and will be treated to tasty food and drinks at the finish. Aid stations will provide water and electrolyte replacement drink approx. every 2 miles. Awards will be presented immediately following the race.

Food and Drinks
This race feature jaw-dropping views of the canyon from the unique perspective of the North Rim. Both courses are run on a well-maintained gravel road which enters the Park and then meanders along the rim of the canyon. Awards will be presented immediately following the race: 20K Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd male/female, Master male/female, 1st place male/female in the following age groups: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50- 59, 60-69, over 70. 8K Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd male/female
This is the only racing event ever to be held within the North Rim of the Black Canyon. Spectators are encouraged to come and cheer on the runners and take in the beauty of the canyon. There is limited parking within the Park. A shuttle will be available to transport spectators from the start of the race just outside the Park boundary where there is ample parking to 2 locations: at the finish area; and at mile 3.60 aid station (a short walk from the finish). Both locations provide excellent spots where you can cheer on both the 8K and 20K runners. The shuttle will be available to return you from the Ranger Station where the post-race activities will be taking place back to the starting area (a distance of 4 miles). If you do drive into the Park, please park only in designated areas to avoid citations.
Timing will be done manually.
The closest communities to this event are Crawford, Hotchkiss, and Paonia. Small motels and B&Bs are available. Limited camping is available at the North Rim of the Black Canyon on a first-come first-serve basis and nearby Crawford Reservoir also has camping sites.
Packet Pickup will be at the starting area from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM on race day,
Register on-line at www.runningguru.com. The entry fee includes a pass into the Park through 10/10/15 at the South Rim and North Rim. If registration is not full, there will be registration available on race day for $40. Packet pick-up will be on race day starting at 8:30 a.m. 8K participants must be ready to board a bus at 9:45 a.m. to take them to their starting area. The bus will be available at the event staging area near the entrance to the park.
